At Wohl Ilford Jewish Primary School the health, safety and well-being of every pupil is our priority. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our students.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the policies section of our website. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and all adults are trained to look out for signs of physical and emotional harm or neglect and are required to report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that any concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
The policies and guidance apply to all staff, governors and volunteers working in school and are in place to ensure that:
● The school is a safe environment for children to develop and thrive.
● We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
● WIJPS practices ‘safer recruitment’ policies with regard to checking the suitability of all staff and volunteers who work in the school.
● Stringent induction procedures ensure that staff are aware of their duty of care, standards of behaviour, need for confidentiality, health and safety and esafety.
● Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy is based on the statutory guidance from the DfE ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and is brought to staff’s attention as part of their induction to school, via further inset provision, including developing a clear understanding of procedures for identifying and reporting cases of suspected abuse and provision of ongoing support for our pupils.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Lisa West (Headteacher)
The Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Francoise Amselli (Class Teacher)
The nominated Governor with responsibility for safeguarding is Mr Barry Soraff.
